Cellulite 101

Almost every woman will experience cellulite at some point in her life due to the constant hormonal fluctuations we experience. Some women don't mind it, some proudly embrace it, and others are insecure about it and try many different techniques in an attempt to get rid of it, like long hours in the gym, cosmetic surgical procedures, and diet changes. Regardless of how you feel about your cellulite, your body is beautiful. However, if you do want to reduce the appearance of cellulite on your body, gym time and surgeries are actually a waste of energy.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite can be defined as "persistent subcutaneous (underneath the skin) fat causing dimpling of the skin, especially on women's hips and thighs." It is actually a circulatory issue, dealing with the flow of blood in the affected areas; it's essentially a deposition of fat primarily caused by poor local blood flow, and is associated with toxin buildup in the body. It can also be caused by other factors like hormonal fluctuations, unhealthy eating habits, and lack of movement, but improper circulation is often the main culprit. This means that your attention should be diverted to getting your blood and lymphatic systems flowing instead of focusing too much on external maintenance like weight training (although this can help) and surgical procedures if you're looking to reduce the appearance of cellulite on your body.

How to Get Rid of Cellulite

Increasing blood flow to the affected areas is key when attempting to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Movement is your best friend, especially in the form of massages with ingredients that stimulate the flow of blood.

Cinnamon and Coffee are amazing at helping to treat cellulite, as they both have unique properties that address the underlying cause of this issue: poor circulation. The warming properties of cinnamon oil stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage in the area of application and help the body eliminate the toxins that cause cellulite. Massaging your self with cinnamon infused oils or exfoliating with cinnamon infused body scrubs is the perfect way to give those legs or thighs the extra love and movement they require to enhance blood flow, break up those fat deposits, and carry those toxins out of the body. A study found that women who were treated with cinnamon infused massage oils saw up to a 60% reduction in the appearance of cellulite versus the control group who received massages without cinnamon oil and only saw a 10% reduction in overall cellulite appearance.

Coffee is another great ingredient for helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The caffeine present helps to dilate (make wider, open up) the blood vessels, improve blood flow, and eliminate excess fluids from the area. The recommended massaging action that accompanies the use of an exfoliating scrub or body oil assist in draining the lymphatic system, improving the appearance of cellulite.
